Traditionally, drying is done through sun drying or high-temperature dryers such as electric or gas-fired systems. Sun drying depends heavily on favorable weather conditions, while high-temperature drying risks damaging nutrients and quality. Specialty crops like flowers, herbs, echinacea, and certain fruits require gentle drying at low temperatures (30°C to 45°C) to preserve their valuable qualities.
Heating ambient air for drying is cost-effective, but at higher humidity, drying at low temperatures becomes challenging. High heat can degrade material structure, making products unusable. Low-temperature drying significantly reduces nutrient loss and physical damage, preserving product integrity.
